Nagayan: 07/04-13/2004 [ARCHIVES]

So, thanks to the lovely nikki_aino's alerting me to this fact, Nagayama Takashi's old blog entries (from before he moved to his current one) have been archived by the WaybackMachine here, from around mid 2004 to early 2006. There's a LOT here that hasn't been translated before, and I'm going to tackle it as an attempt to get back into the translating groove XD

These entries are sometimes quite long, which calls to mind the question of why he stopped being so wordy, but for now just sit back and enjoy. The pictures that accompany the entries were not archived, but when possible and pertinent, I will try and include a description of what the image was. If anyone DOES have the image for this date, feel free to upload it and I'll link it here :) Text in italics is the link text for the picture.

July 04, 2004 - 11:20 PM - Nagayama Takashi

Mickey punched me, then left.
Nagayama Takashi's 1-man play

July 06, 2004 - 12:29 AM

I went and said I'd try my best to write on Monday [the day before], and here I am having just gotten home frantic to write...or rather, I'm sitting here mumbling to myself. Tomorrow I've got an interview first thing in the morning da~ne. And of course it's a TeniMyu one da~ne. And the day after that is an F2 session da~ne. Da~ne... It's nice being able to work every day da~ne. I'm gonna work hard and stay pumped so people don't say things like, 'Wow you look tired'!" Well, see you later da~ne~

July 07, 2004 - 11:30 AM

Today I'm going in to work on F2! But before that--here's today's picture.

Is this Nagayama Takashi's sibling...? [T/N: I think it's a stuffed doll or something?]

July 08, 2004 - 2:02 AM

Today was a hot Tanabata! I never knew this, but Orihime and Hikoboshi weren't really like Romeo and Juliet, with a love that could never be--they were actually husband and wife (whether they were real or not, I don't know). Supposedly they were too close with each other and always together, so they never did anything else, and were made to separate...?? Well, I actually don't know the real truth... Today was TeniMyu and F2 practice, and then I went to have a feast for dinner... And there a Tanabata miracle occurred. Kime-chan treated me. Kirakira...or something like that! And now I'm watching K-1 on tape~!!! Friday I'm not doing F2, so I'm going out on location. Those of you who were planning to come see it, be careful!!! (ala Nagai Hidekazu)

July 13, 2004 - 12:44 AM

So hot...as usual for a Monday. Today I didn't have to go into rehearsals. Where'd the rainy season go... <--that's how hot it's been lately with day after day of heat. Lately I've been on this health kick, working hard to make sure I don't get hurt and I don't wear out my body. Yogurt, soy flour, dried mangoes, vegetable juice, eel, soy milk, really I'm eating anything that seems good for my body. After all, mess up your body and you'll lose it! There's just 17 more days til the next TeniMyu. It's coming along very nicely, so look forward to it!! Oh, changing the subject here, but around July 25th I'm planning on releasing three new Blossam items: a tank top, a cap, and another tanktop! I'll update with more details later, so stop bugging Gain for them~ (＾＠＾) Also, I've heard that Blossam is popping up on Yahoo auctions, too. It's sad that people buy it for that reason. Of course, after you've paid for it, it's yours to do whatever you want with, but please understand that that's the reason some other people can't buy any at all. Aaaallll right! I'm gonna work hard at rehearsals tomorrow!!! Everyone, take care of yourselves!!

12/12/05-02/10/06: Nagayan's OFF entries

These are just a few of the entries from the diary section of Nagayan's OFF photobook. I'll be doing them all, but these are a tad slower going than online blog entries XDDDD

>>December 12, 2005

When you can't bring yourself to laugh, when you've got to laugh, when you can't help but laugh. There are lots of different kinds of laughing. I wonder, can something good come from all of them...? At the Mutter Courage Tokyo performance, even though it was all voluntary, a lot of flowers came congratulating us. I was so happy then, and laughed, "Thank you!" When I met up with a friend for the first time in a while for lunch, as usual--when I said I wanted to eat rice, I got dragged to a curry restaurant with a, "We'll have some nan, please," and without even thinking I blew out a laugh... When a tooth filling I'd just gotten treated at the dentist came out with my gum...it was nothing to laugh at...but I couldn't help it.... Aah, ceramic. You just can't laugh at that though (;_;)

>>December 30, 2005

2005's trying to end. But, I wanted to consider a few things before it became 2006... What exactly does it mean to be an "adult"?

This question has been floating around inside my head lately. I, Nagayama Takashi, am now 27 years old. In public this is generally thought of as an "adult" age. But, am I an adult just because I've passed 20? Am I an adult if I'm working? Am I an adult if I'm earning money? Am I an adult if I'm self-reliant? Am I an adult if I have kids? Am I an adult if I'm calm and mature? I mean, they call it 'otonashii' after all. Are big people adults? Does that mean since I'm short, I'm not? Maybe because I think things like that, or want to BE an adult, or think that I am, when I'm able to sense things like that, regardless of my age, maybe that makes me an adult. Thank you, 2005.

>>February 10, 2006

I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who'll move their whole body when they're playing video games. I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who'll open their mouths when trying to put medicine drops in their eyes. I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who have to take out a piece of hard candy they've just started eating and put it in their cupholders. I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who, when they blow their noses, will actually check the tissue after they do it. I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who check their messages and see there are 0 new ones, then check again, and again, and still see no new ones. They know there aren't any, and yet they still do it, so I just find it funny.

03/23-04/03/07: Tuti

03/21/07 [11:30 PM]: Tuti - BLEACH

We've successfully finished the first day.
First we're concentrating on getting to the Tokyo final show, then we're off.

03/23/07 [4:34 PM]: Tuti - Third Day

Today I can relax a bit before the performance.
Thanks to the oil massage I got yesterday I feel like most of my tiredness is gone now.
Right now Kitamura Izuru is practicing dancing. But this pose isn't his.
I'll be hosting next week's PaniSuta by myself.

03/28/07 [11:33 PM]: BLEACH Tokyo

It's finished safely.
Thank you for all your support.
As the musical version of Gin--
This time, to put it simply, seeing as I don't have many lines, I'm placing mroe emphasis on my gestures and presence.
There are lots of mysterious points this performance, and while there are a lot of tough parts where I wasn't sure

exactly how to act, I'm going to give it my best.
Kubo-sensei came to yesterday's after-party, it was a really great time.

So with that, I thought I'd have a drink today and got out the champagne. And on top of that it's a vintage.
I've been holding back on the alcohol lately, so I thought something like this for once... and for my throat, I've switched

to cigarettes that will hurt it less.

This week's PaniSuta guests will be Kitamura Eiki-kun and Katou Manabu-kun.

In the Look At Star on sale right now, there's a series on *pnish*'s new work, so please check it out.

03/30/07 [1:41 AM]: Tuti - Plays and More Plays

Today I went to see two performances.
With that it was actually a pretty nice day.

In the afternoon, I saw Tsubaki-gumi's, "Summer's Island, Spring's Song."
And in the evening, I saw Rappaya's, "My Wife's Family."
It's really tough going to see two plays in one day, but both were great so it was a nice day.

For the afternoon Tsubaki show, I was in the same play six or seven years ago. At that time it was called, "And Springs

Waters Become a Streaming River."
I'm very familiar with what a great work this is.
There are a lot of people who say to this day that it's their favorite of the plays I've been in so far.
And this is my first time seeing someone else performing in a role I performed in before.
I was really excited going to see it.
My role was performed by a member of the Bungaku company who was the same age as me.
And actually, it was with this role that I had my first and so far only love scene.
I watched the play, remembering everything that had happened.
It was really a great performance.
There was this entertainment feel to it I didn't get at first when I'd done it, and I could really feel the spot-on

directing, it was enough to make one weep.
Chon-san is really a great writer.

In the evening was Rappaya.
The truth is, I'm a huge fan of this troupe.
It was a thrilling performance.
Thanks to the unusual length of the performance, I got a real shock when I checked my watch after the show.
In the wake of last year's, "Tomorrow's News," I got to see a whole new side to them, and the final sense of unity it left

was amazing.
If you have the time, I definitely recommend going to see it.

Now, normally I don't write this sort of thing. Since it's the internet, I like to avoid negative comments.
So when I really enjoy something, I'll write about it, seriously.
So please think that when I say I didn't really get the underlying meaning of a play or wasn't moved by it, that just

means I thought it was boring.

03/31/07 [6:41 PM]: Tuti - Today is PaniSuta

It started raining immediately after the show ended and I wound up getting soaked.
I still hurried along to the station, but I hope those of you who came to the studio were all right.
Please be careful of catching cold.
Still, today was really fun.
Bullying Gaku when we got on a backstage-high, we went a little wild.
While Daiki-chan wrote in his letter for us not to get out of hand, of course we did.
We've still gotthe Hyougo performance, so we couldn't say much in the way of spoilers, but we told a lot of goofy

stories.

Did you all enjoy yourselves?
Or ratherm
Yeah, we had a blast--something wrong with that?

That was today's PaniSuta.

04/04/07 [12:56 PM]: Tuti - Hyougo

We opened our first day, and it feels great.
I had curry this afternoon with Tatsuya.
Tomorrow I think I'm going to go searching for another good restaurant.
So if you know of any, I thank you for the tip!

04/07/07 [10:03 AM]: Tuti - Today and Tomorrow

BLEACH will end all its performances.
I've been able to relax a bit in my performance.

Thank you for the delicious suggestions.
Yesterday we all went out for Funeba curry. The previous two days were curry as well.
This is an update from Curry-For-Lunch-Three-Days-Straight Hyougo.

04/09/07 [12:31 PM]: Tuti - BLEACH Ended

Thank you for your support.
We were able to successfully make it to senshuuraku.

This time I had kind of a flying start with my villain role, and got to experience a lot of new things.
I feel like with this final installment, I've finally become able to stand on stage as Ichimaru Gin.
Even as a subordinate it felt at times like he was manipulating Aizen.
I was able to feel that freshness, it was a great line of performances.
Thank you all so much for your support.

Today, without any chance to rest, I was up early in the morning headed back to Tokyo for a *pnish* TV interview.
It started yesterday on SkyPerfect/TheatreTV.
*pnish*'s first regular TV show, one year long, with website linkage and everything.
Please stick with us this year.

04/12/07 [10:35 PM]: Tuti - 『Gorgeous, or Perhaps Brilliant』

On Tuesday we had a meet-and-greet, and read through the script a bit.
Yesterday we read the script the whole way through for the first time.
I'm sooooo tired.

There's a good few lines of course, but I really felt how this is a play that's going to require my focus the whole time.
At the meet-and-greet the script-wrter Iijima-san also came. I'm glad I got to talk with him a little but I was sooo

nervous.
This is a really intense 4-person drama. I'm having fun already just from reading the script, but this was my first meet-

and-greet that comprised only 5 people with the director.
We talked a little, idle chatter, and I could feel that this was going to be something that required good communication,

but thanks to Leader's spontaneous joke, he managed to get a little laughter out of me.
Thank you, Daiki-chan.

04/15/07 [12:21 AM]: Tuti - HappyPani 6th

We'll be doing it again this year.
The *pnish* festival that comes but once a year--*pnish*'s formation anniversary, July 1st.
Let's all celebrate together then~
Today we had a meeting to discuss it.
It's really been a while since we all gathered together to have a meeting.
As usual, Daiki-chan talked our ears off about his own recent affairs, and Wasshi wound up being a god listener...
The details will be announced on the *pnish* site so please check there.

Today we have the day off from "Gorgeous" rehearsals.

04/19/07 [10:43 PM]: Tuti - Gonna do it!

Today we had "Gorgeous" rehearsals.

We're working on the performance and perfecting it day by day.
There's a lot of pressure that I feel like I've not experienced before.

But with all my costars and everything, it's really wonderful, I'm getting a good bit of help.

When I heard the official word on the casting, I thought, Wow, if it's these castmates, I think I might be able to rely on

them and pull this off.

Now as the days go by I'm further deepening this trusting relationship with them.
With this performance, the relationships present now will transfer seamlessly to the work itself, and day by day the play will change.

It's fun, as by that it feels like a living thing, but thinking that my own actions will connect to the play itself, all these delicate parts are a little scary.

Not trusting one another enough, or something going wrong. Sure, I've felt like those kinds of things were bad before, and tried to keep them from happening, but this time it can't be that way.

I want to make this a good performance--I want to make this something great.
It's important for me not to waver in those feelings.
It's like, if I don't do this now, then when will I?

This week I'll be hosting PaniSuta.
We'll have my Gorgeous costars Hibi-san and Oikawa-san as guests.

Thank you all so much for all your opinions on, "What You Want to See Tsuchiya Yuuichi Do Next" when I asked before.
If you think of anything else, please refer to the "Send Message" button on the left.

04/21/07 [6:50 PM]: Tuti - PaniSuta~

Those of you who watched outside, thank you very much.
Those of you online, were you able to view it properly? Trying so hard on the website, it looks like you had quite a battle with the sound more so than the video...

And just as Moriyama-san predicted, today I was pushy as usual.
The two guests said they enjoyed themselves, though. They're so adult. The progress of the program wasn't that great.
We talk a lot in the rehearsal hall of course, but being in another place like this is a different kind of fun.
And there's only 4 cast members this time.
The way no one's personalities seem to overlap is a lot like *pnish*. It's kind of fun.

I've announced the June 14-16th event.
I'll give out details as they come.
Please wait a little longer~

04/23/07 [1:38 AM]: Tuti - Banana Java Chocolate

I ordered something sweet from Starbucks, something I don't usually do. I was able to down it better than I thought, actually, but it kind of bugged me having all the whipped cream left over.

Today I went to see my favorite troupe, Modern Swimmers, with Kei-san after rehearsals were over.
It was a twist I haven't seen from Modern lately.
You could feel the adultness in it.
The adultness of Takada-san and Yoshigawa-san who appeared as guests was really evident.
It was a performance overflowing with nervousness.
But the last scene was impressive; I could really feel I'd gotten the feel for the play as it neared the end.

Rehearsals are going well.
I haven't gotten quite into character yet, though.
But rather than making this a performance focused on one person,
I think I should make it one showing human weakness through what I show.
This is something I've learned this year.

04/24/07 [11:38 PM]: Tuti - 『T.T.T.』

Information has been upped to the *pnish* site.
This will be the 10th Anniversary Event for the actor, Tsuchiya Yuuichi.
I'm starting preparations now.
I'll talk, do some other things, I'm still trying to decide.
Please look forward to it.

In the rehearsal hall we all tried on glasses, and took pictures.
Though only one of us wears glasses in the play...
This time a business named 'Loyd' is providing the glasses, and apparently they have all kinds of things from the early Showa era, not just glasses.
So everyone's testing them out.
I think I'm gonna show them off to Yuzawa-san, since he likes Loyd so much.
The cast this time is made up of four guys.
The roles are a little like *pnish* so you might have fun watching us...

04/28/07 [11:04 PM]: Tuti - Te~am

Today's a rehearsal hall pic.
Modern Boys Team--1 shot.

With the director's guidance, we've gotten down our communication with perseverance.
But even still, I've realized that it's so we can make the play come alive.
It's a strange 4-man play, with a lot of dialogue.
This performance, I've received a lot of thoughts and feelings within this play from the other three guys.
Those real thoughts and feelings are one thing you should look for.

My digital camera broke, so lately I've been taking nothing but cellphone pictures. I've gotta send it off for repairs soon.

04/30/07 [2:36 AM]: Tuti - 「T.T.T.」 Ticket Presale

T.T.T(Tuti 10th Thanks )
Presale tickets for the event went on sale today, but it appears there was some trouble and people were inconvenienced, so I apologize.

Something like me, or maybe, something new? I'm considering a lot of things.

Yesterday,
「Billy's Boot Camp」
I borrowed this from someone.

My muscles really are sore.
And I'm in the middle of rehearsals too.
I can't believe I did this--it's from too little exercise...
The reason I've been so easily tired lately is undoubtedly from my muscle mass going down.

This is the first time I've felt so out of sorts with the performance getting so close.
I feel like I need to get out...
"Is this all right? Is that all right?"
"Have I gotten rid of everything I was uneasy about with my role?"

The other day, I got this text message from Iwashita-kun from AirGear Myu rehearsals:

「I wish Yuzawa would just drop dead.」

Eeeh??
What's this?!
Yuzawa-san--what sort of rash thing did you say to Iwashita-kun?!
What kind of bad joke did you make to tick him off?

This should have been the first meet-and-greet of the Air Gear musical...
I was so surprised that the usually gentle Iwashita-kun would send me such a cold, frank message.
I got really worried.

「What happened?」 I replied with, frantic. And when I did...

「Yuzawa-san sent the last message himself.」...came the reply.

...This one, of course, being sent by Iwashita-kun.
So I got all worried by myself for nothing...

Yuzawa Kouichirou.
What kind of bad joke is that?!

But then there hasn't really been much need to.
This time I feel like there's a lot to compare with previous performances. It's always nice when you feel like your performance has gotten better.
Since I'm not really together with Izuru much, I thought I'd take a picture with Eiki for a change, along with the rehearsal hall stress relief toy, Gaku.
This time, performance-wise, will see big shifts in my relationships and how I feel towards people--I feel this more and more each day.

Lately it's gotten super cold.
The wind and cold are especially tough in the area around the rehearsal hall.

Yesterday I watched 「Hi-sasu」 from 14 years ago on Skapa, it was really funny.

03/14/07 [11:21 PM]: Tuti - I love sittingin the sun

Not gonna lose to the wind,
Not gonna lose to the cold.
Every day I take the 15 minute walk from the train station to the rehearsal hall.
Aren't there any places to rehearse that connect directly to the train station?

Starting tomorrow advance ticket sales for the May 「Gorgeous, or Perhaps Brilliant」 will start.
Of course I'm performing in the Modern Boy version, but please check the official site (http://kenrantoka.net/) to be sure of the day and time.

03/17/07 [2:51 AM]: Tuti - A regular genius

Today after BLEACH rehearsals, I went out for yakiniku with Moriyama-san and some of the staff members.
When I say Moriyama-san, I of course mean from *pnish*, that super-strong taichou.
Saying things like, "And now we'll completely flip over the net of meat after it's been thoroughly cooked~"
...the "net."
I've got to hand it to Moriyama-san for trying to use the complete opposite side instead of just turning it some.
He is, without a doubt, *pnish*'s simple genius.

Lately Suzuki Shougo-san, who usually performs pretty quietly and seriously, has been asking me, "Do you think I'm kinda like Eiji?"

03/19/07 [11:54 PM]: Tuti - Buried Alive

I went to see it.
It was really crowded--as to be expected from a really popular group.
I'm kinda tired from the really straining, hard performance, but I'm glad I went.
The producing was amaaaaazing.
The aristry, sound, lights, the play itself.
I really strongly realized that it's the kind of balance you can't find anywhere but on stage.
It was a really effective use of the time I had until we finally enter the theater tomorrow for BLEACH.
I've been having these strange muscle pains for the past two days of rehearsals, but at last it's the real performance the day after tomorrow.

03/20/07 [12:44 AM]: Tatsuya - ☆So nervous!☆

Tomorrow is at long last the Rock Musical Bleach performaaaance!
I can't wait☆I always get this weird unusual tension on the first day, so I've gotta be careful of that.
Everyone, let's put our power together and give it our all♪
Let's all work together! (>_<)

This time it's Tokyo first huh~
We've always been in Osaka first and then Tokyo, so I'm kinda happy we get to end it in Hyougo o(^-^)o
It's always so much fun riding the bullet train with everyone, after all!

I think I'll go and ask the staff if they'll put me and Tuti-san in a room together at the hotel!
...though he probably won't want that huh (-_-メ)

The picture's a two-shot with Eiki-san.
Ooh, a room with Tuti-san and Eiki-san would be good, too!....but I won't say that(^_^;)
Don't you think hotel rooms are kinda scary?
Well, even if ghosts come out, I'll get 'em with my Zangetsu!
03/05-06/07: Tuti, Saitou

Mostly updating because Saitou has caused me to need a new kidney. Warning: do not read his entry while drinking liquid.

03/05/07 [12:25 PM]: Tuti - *pnish*TV

We're done on location.
Though it's only noon now.
We started early in the morning.

Moriyama-san appears to be replinishing his lost sleep after taking off his makeup.
He's probably got it tough, having to go into rehearsals earlier than me...
Speaking of which, tomorrow we've gotta be up suuuuper eeeaaarly～

03/06/07 [12:53 PM]: Saitou

I'm have a confession to make.
I'm actually...a really weak person.

It's been a few days now since 'that incident' happened,
In Shibuya, at a certain ramen shop.
At this shop, you can order the "gold bowl," or "silver bowl," or any number of different ramen bowls, so I ordered a ticket for the "gold bowl" as if it was, "the usual" when I'd only been inside once before.
I sat down at the counter and gave my ticket to the guy working the kitchen, stating what oil, noodles, and flavor I wanted. All that was left was to await my gold-bowl-chan...
It was then that a Vietnamese man in his 40s came in and took the seat beside me.
He looked kind of like a, "Kon-san," to me, so I'll refer to him hereafter as, "Kon-san."
Kon-san looked as if he couldn't speak Japanese, but amazingly enough he managed to order simply by gesturing.

After a few more minutes of waiting, at long last it came out, carried towards me from the kitchen.
...or so I thought, but it passed me right by and was set down in front of Kon-san.
We ordered the same thing? Great minds think alike, huh Kon-chan~
Wait a minute...I ordered mine first, this is a little fishy!
But, paying no mind to the conflicts of the young Japanese man sitting next to him, Kon-san began eating his delicious ramen.

Of course, Ambassador of Peace Saitou could not possibly remain quiet about this, but when I went to call out to the manager...
...a gorgeous bowl of ramen, the likes of which I'd never met before, came out of the kitchen and began to make its way towards me in slow motion.

At that moment I finally understood what had happened.
This gorgeous bowl of ramen was the most expensive one sold at the shop, "Super Gold Bowl," and the employee had just mixed up the order.

Now, here I should have been honest and explained the situation to the shop owner...

But the Devil Saitou Takumi said:
★"Naaah, it's fiiiine! It's not your fault, so just eat it like noooothing's wrong!"

And the Angel Saitou Takumi said:
☆"No! If there's been a mistake, you must correct it. When he realizes what's gone wrong, Kon-san will get the wrong impression of Japan and we'll have an international crisis on our hands!"

...In the end I told myself, "Yeah, eat it!"

My heartbeat sped up, and I calmly started to eat that gorgeous bowl of ramen, as if I'd ordered it in the first place.

Two kinds of pork fillet!
This is definitely different～!
With that I got into this "super tasty" Tomii-fukubuchou mood and was enjoying myself, but as expected, that happy fukubuchou time didn't last long...

Kon-san apparently realized something was off, and started comparing the menu picture with what he'd been served.
I started getting nervous....and then started eating faster.
I hurried to eat everything on top of the noodles, so that you couldn't tell what it had been originally.
Ah, barely made it...

A few moments later, Kon-san and the manager finally grasped what had happened.
Meanwhile, under their cold gaze as they stared me down, I knew if I flinched all was lost, and kept on eating.

I win.

But, overall, it was a loss.
A huge failure.

Kon-san, Ramen Shop-san, please forgive me.

P.S.
Even though it reads 『super tasty』, it really decreases your appetite, so I really recommend it to people on diets.

This year I'm going to play lots of different ones.
So with that in mind, I want to ask something:

What you want Tsuchiya Yuuichi to do,
What you want to see Tsuchiya Yuuichi as,

Do you have any suggestions?
If you do, rather than leaving me a comment--use the button on the left here, and send me an email so that only I can see it.

Tomorrow is Keizai-H.
The writer/director Kobayashi-san is a former BQMAP member.

I always wanted to work with him at some point, but I never thought it'd be like this.
It's like, "Just a guest?"
The other day after rehearsals we all went out for a little drink, but just as I imagined, he's a wonderful person.

The other *pnish* members are avoiding it on their blogs, but starting tomorrow within a few days there will be some new news from *pnish*.
After the information-ban has been lifted, I'll let you all know about it here.

03/01/07 [10:15 PM]: Tuti - New Program

This has already been updated on the *pnish* site, but starting in April on Sky Perfect Theatre TV,
「Hottokenai! *pnish*TV」
Will start!
It feels like it's been a long time coming.
Today we were on location for it.
We're having a great time shooting it.
Everyone, look forward to it!

After the shoot I went out to play billiards with Moriyama-san for the first time in a while.

03/03/07 [12:39 AM]: Tuti - Keizai-H

Thank you to everyone who came to see us.
On stage I said a lot of mean things about Kensaku-san, but I really like the guy.
I want to work with them again.
I was a little nervous, but I had a great time, and I'm thankful to the cast and all the audience members.
Everyone was fully loaded on their jokes during the second performance, and it was a little sad to have it end with so much material to use.
Though it was also a little embarassing just being a guest.

I'll announce some particulars for their October performance mentioned in the pamphlet here:
October 5th through the 8th.

02/25/07 [1:38 PM]: Saitou - 【Naming】

You can't change it, huh?

02/26/07 [2:33 AM]: Talk Show with Eiki-san

Today at Rikkoukai Hall,
I had a talk show with Eiki-san.

I got there at 12:30, got my hair and makeup done, signed some post-cards, had a rehearsal, and then it was the real thing o(^-^)o
I was with Eiki-san, so I wasn't nervous at all, it was a really comfortable talk♪

Getting to take pictures with all the people supporting me,
And getting to talk with them for a little one on one was really nice (>_<)
You don't get time like that often, after all!♪
I got a lot of power from it☆

I'll work hard on rehearsals starting tomorrow!(^^)
Thanks a lot for today★

*pnish* article translation

Here's the translation of a pre-On5 *pnish* article from the issue of Top Stage that went on sale last November. Tuti/Nagayan fans especially should check it out ^_~

Tuti: Well, rehearsals started yesterday...
Eiji: My whole body hurts.
Daiki: I'm reeeaaaally stiff around my hips.
Wasshi: Yeah, it's hard, huh～
Tuti: Plus this time we've got Tetsuharu-san as our choreographer, the one who's been the toughest out of all the choreographers we've worked with before. We started off at full power.
Eiji: But still, he's pretty cool! There are lots of moves that feel like it's the first time we've done something like them.
Daiki: And the music also feels like we haven't used it before...Ah, well this time everything's original. It's a new atmosphere.
Wasshi: Then there's the opening--it's looking like it's gonna be really pumped up from the moment the curtain rises.
Daiki: And the etude is fun, too. Once you figure out how you're going to go about something and start moving, everyone's individuality really starts to come out. Eiji's joking side came out more so than usual. And Wasshi...well he just stands there silent.
Wasshi: Hey, cut that out! (haha) Well...sure, for a moment there it did seem like I was intruding on your world of three people (haha).
Tuti: The theme for this 『on』 is "childhood friends," which is a first for us, so that newness will make it all the more interesting. And actually, it came about at the suggestion of my actor friend, Nagayama Takashi. A while ago I asked Takashi, "What do you think would be good to do for the winter On?" and he replied, "What about if you all four dressed up like kindergarteners and did skits?" I thought that was pretty good, we could work with that, and then it kind of blossomed into "childhood friends"...
Daiki: Wait a minute! That's the first I've heard of that--you mean it wasn't your idea?!
Tuti: Nope! I stole someone else's idea! That's my specialty, you know (haha)
Eiji: Well now we're going to have to stick in there somewhere, "Background Producer: Nagayama Takashi"...somewhere, you know (haha) That reminds me, though--"childhood friends," that's talking about people you've known since you were little, right? So it's not necessarily people who are really good friends with you... That aspect's a little weird for me. There are people I was really close with when I was small, but I haven't seen them at all since then, and if we met up again I'd be able to just hop right back into talking with them, right? The concept of childhood friends is really strange.
Wasshi: Yeah, it is. But just from the word itself, you can really strongly sense this childish time, a home-town sensation.

Jump With All Your Heart, What *pnish* really Is!

Tuti: With everything getting so pumped up with all the jokes, before we knew it the play had taken shape and gotten some real flow to it, and that actually worried me a little. It's too clean! I'd been thinking, "I really wanna do this drifting, loose elementary schooler skit!", so the task set before me from the very beginning was how best to break up that flow. The charm of an On comes in really feeling the dramatic parts, while still showing the short story parts well.
Eiji: Do you remember what you were like in elementary school? For me, even in something as simple as a game of tag I would really worry about getting tagged, how much I didn't want to be. I'd get worked up over the tiniest things.
Daiki: But now it's like, "It's a lot more fun getting tagged, though--you get to sit around the whole time." (haha)
Tuti: So what were you all like as kids? For me--I would always get lost whenever I'd go out with my mom. "Oooh, whazzat?" "What's going on over there??" I'd be really curious and just waaaander away, and in the end I'd wind up being called for over the loudspeaker. She'd always be waiting for me at the front, crying.
Daiki: I'd get distracted a lot, too. During school I'd always stare out the window and the teacher would get mad at me. I was a pretty spoiled kid, actually.
Eiji: I was an 'Isono Katsuo.' [T/N: A character from the manga "Sazae-san," Katsuo was an 11-year-old boy who, while his grades were abyssmal, was very clever, and often played tricks on adults, making him a kind of leader to the kids around him.] I'd always play tricks on my parents, I was a real handful. And like, say my homework was to write the kanji 「持」 10 times, lots of times I'd just write out the 手(te) radical ahead of time [T/N: Kanji are divided up into radicals. The "te" radical, for example, is the 扌 on the left of 持.] It's faster that way. But I would get through writing all those 扌 radicals, and then in the rush forget to finish the rest, so in the end I always wound up getting in trouble anyways (haha)
Wasshi: I was actually really talkative as a kid. Whenever a new thought entered my mind it always immediately showed up in the way I spoke or acted. Though that sense of my feelings influencing my actions hasn't really changed much, some time between then and now I started showing it outright less and less... But not showing things like that normally, I feel like that kind of shows I've become and adult, and really suits me for this type of work.
Eiji: So when you took group pictures on school trips, did you stand in the middle?
Wasshi: Yup, very middle.
Eiji: Me too, me too!
Tuti: So basically, nothing's changed since then (haha). So for this performance, everyone's basic "self" is really going to show, I feel like it's really turing into a *pnish*-esque performance. It's like, we're going all out with the stupid stunts.
Eiji: We're gonna leap high over even the smallest of hurdles~!
Tuti: Right right (haha)
Wasshi: In our skits, too, we're working on putting together new characters even better than the ones up til now. Ah～I can't wait to do the skits!
Daiki: We can't say much without giving things away, but we're ending 2006 with this performance featuring all four of us, so I hope we'll be able to really enjoy ourselves on stage while at the same time putting on a good show with lots of different scenes to entertain everyone.
Eiji: There are some fun scenes where we use props, we're trying a lot of new things this time, so I hope you'll all look forward to it. Also, make sure you keep an eye on Moriyama Eiji as he makes sure to retain the pure heart of a young boy even after passing 30.
Wasshi: There were lots of people this year who saw *pnish* for the first time, so I hope they can come to understand our attraction even more through this On.
Tuti: There are lots of instances of people saying our comedy style is really "special," but that's actually a great compliment, and truthfully, every time we get a laugh from the audience, I grow more confident that, "Hey, we really must be doing something right." So everyone, get excited, "This is gonna be a blast!"--cause it's definitely gonna be fun!

02/19-21/07: Tuti, Tatsuya, Saitou, Daiki

02/20/07 [6:40 PM]:Tuti - BLEACH

Yesterday we had the meet-and-greet, [T/N: The 'kao-awase' or 'meet-and-greet' is where, before a show starts, all the actors and staff gather together to introduce themselves and express their wishes for a good show, another Japanese custom.]
And rehearsals started today.
There were some 50 or 60 people at the meet-and-greet.
So many...
I really hate meet-and-greets where there are a lot of people gathered. I always get nervous.
But it's really important, it stirs up the pressure inside me.
Today's rehearsal was a simple read-through of the script.
We read it through 3 times, and as expected I'm pretty worn out.
This is the first time I've read through the script so much for BLEACH. But for BLEACH it's better to read it through a lot, I think.
Sitting there facing everyone else, and just calmly getting a feel for the script.
I feel like this will be a great performance that any BLEACH fan won't want to miss.

02/20/07 [3:59 AM]: Tatsuya - Looks like thanks to this the rain's gonna stop

It's the first day of rehearsals☆
We did a script read-through.
We had the first performance, then the Saien, then "The Dark," and now with this performance we'll be finishing up, so when we read through the script, it felt really deep.

We didn't get done until the evening, so we all went out for drinks.
It's nice just talking with friends and not thinking about anything, but it's really fun talking with people who have the same intentions as you.
I get really excited!

I thought I'd put up a picture of just me and Osamu-san, who I share a lot of scenes with,
But Shiisaa barged in on a southern breeze~
Jeez, it makes my head hurt.

02/19/07 [3:13 AM]: Saitou - 【Love, Women, Beauty】

The daily greeting among members of the Machigagen tribe is:
「Ainyobi?」
With the meaning of:
「Do you exist?」

They don't ask what you're doing,
Simply the fact that you're there is what's most important.

--Sekino Yoshiharu, Explorer
(Machigagen tribe = a tribe dwelling deep in the heart of the Amazon)

And lastly, a random Daiki entry because...he needs some happy vibes sent his way :(

02/21/07 [11:13 AM]: Daiki - Sorry it's--

--been so long m(__)m
This will be a little dark,
But four days ago, my grandmother passed away. She was very strong, and warm, and always was kind to me. She even gave me my name.
But I haven't really talked to her, or seen her since I came to Tokyo, and I wasn't there for her at the end...
I thought I was prepared for this sort of thing, but...actually I have nothing but regrets. I'd always meant to do this, or that if this every happened.
I'd passed my days thinking everything would always be the same, and wrongly assumed that whenever I went home, my grandmother would be there.
So now I'm going to tell those near and dear to me how much they mean to me. It seems simple, but even though it might be difficult I want to hold them precious to me.
And I'm going to work hard not to bring shame upon this name that my grandmother gave me!! (>_<)

Well, that's the end of that talk!
Now then, switching topics here, but starting today I'll be on location in Chiba!! This is some personal work for me.
I'll have to say what kind of work it is later though!! (^-^)
Well～then, today's weather's great!!!!(^o^) Let's go～～～!!!!(☆o☆)Kyupin～!!

Whoops! Forgot some Tuti the other day *_____* Have more~

01/31/07 [5:24 PM]: Tuti - Feeling good today, too

Yesterday the curry restaurant was closed, so I had soba.
I'm gonna hit up shops in Ikejiri that have hegisoba, too.

The other day I finally got into Sky Perfect.
I've been really busy going around to all these plays.

02/01/07 [1:35 PM]: Tuti - Economics [T/N: It's the name of a group]

I'll be guesting.
When more details become available I'll put them up.

Economics and "H" 「An Encyclopedia for Slobs」
Kobayashi Kensaku (Universal Records & Condors) Directing/Choreographing
Prince Small Theater
March 1～5
Tsuchiya Yuuichi guests: March 2, 8 PM show

Advance tickets: 3,000円, special seats: 3,500円
http://keizai.sub.jp/
Questions: 090ー6932ー3008

02/03/07 [6:43 PM]: Tuti - A little

I slept.
In a sleeping bag.
Gonna work hard this evening.

02/04/07 [2:31 AM]: Tuti - Celebrating One Whole Year

Oh yeah.
Yesterday day was one full year on this blog.
The reason I've been able to keep this up so long, to keep on writing entries, is all thanks to those of you watching.
Sometimes I hesitated on what to write, and there were times when I worried about how effective what I wrote here was, but it's been a full year.
I'm glad I didn't give it up.

02/05/07 [2:34 PM]: Tuti - Via Fountain Pen

I wrote an entry by hand...

[Subject: COD

"Umm, Who Was I Again?"--the Tokyo performance has ended successfully. Thank you for all your support.

I got a fountain pen for my birthday, so I'm going to write today's entry by hand. It feels a little like writing a letter, so it's fun.

There's two days left of the performance. Just two performances in Osaka left. See you all there.]

02/15/07 [12:34 AM]: Tuti - Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day.
As expected there are couples all around town,
And the sight of people sending off the trains with loving smiles.
So I went to see Nekomaji [T/N: Apparently it's some older singing group--a trio of women all over 30 o_O] And they were singing love songs for once.
I like the title, 『A Valentine's Diversion』.

Recently I got a coffee mill, so I tried grinding some beans.
The smell was so strong I think I got a little drunk on it almost.

02/15/07 [6:17 PM]: Tuti - Really into green tea

In Daikan'yama around Nakameguro, I entered this really nice cafe
And had some green tea and Japanese sweets.

This morning I had to get up early for a *pnish* meeting, and then in the afternoon I went for a walk around Daikan'yama with a costume designer I've known for a long time.
Then they took me to eat some youkan.

I've picked up all the birthday and valentines presents that were sent to Nelke Planning.
Thank you for those, as well as all the letters and presents from the performance the other day.

02/16/07 [5:05 AM]: Saitou - 【I'm CREAM SODA】

Valentine's already gone, but I have a present I'd like to recommend for girls to give guys--or for guys to give guys even.

Saitou Takumi stands before you with the simple motive of saying, "I like movies."
But at the same time, what you can receive from reading is also terribly effective.

Books that change your life are far more potent than movies that change your life.

That's because, unlike movies that use pictures and music, things made by humans, they are things that freely take form of your own will inside yourself.

Each work is different for everyone.

I was really happy when I saw works by my own favorite authors like Murakami Haruki and Yoshimoto Banana displayed in European bookshop windows like they really belonged there.

Well, that's a good enough introduction--

『Harajuku Gold Rush』
By: Morinaga Hiroshi
Publisher: Sony Magazines

Of all the books I've been reading lately, this one towered above the rest and really stimulated me.
It's the biography of this super-cool guy, Yamazaki Masayuki-san, who built up present-day Harajuku.
It might just be something that really hit someone like me, but it really pushed me.
No reason, really, I just want guys of all ages (and girls too) to read it.
That thought alone really resounded inside me.

For now I think I'll give it to a close friend of mine.
I've known this friend since elementary school, and he was always a kind of, "Oh crap!" guy, "This guy's really out there!" and we helped each other out.
Around middle school, the reason I started getting into UK Rock and River Phoenix, Itsuki Hiroyuki, and South American culture was all thanks to him.
I'm grateful to him.

When you give someone a gift, many times it's not about price, but, "I want to relate this feeling to that person," "I wonder what they'll think of this," being moved by something and curious about it first, and then passing it on to another.

At the very least I was a bit unsettled when I was given this 『Harajuku Gold Rush』.
Like, "What're you trying to get at?"

But don't worry about them being worried about it--go ahead and give it.

Also,
Itsuki Hiroyuki's 『Go West Young Man』 and Kanegi Kazuki's 『GO』, Ikegami Ryouichi's manga, 「Sanctuary」, Takahashi Ayumu-san's books, Mijima and Dazai among others, there's lots of things that can really get a guy's blood going.

Ladies, please take these into account when considering presents.
Guys, any of them are fine, just check them out!

Well, guys AND girls, try reading them.
I think the best present is one that doesn't really have a solid form anyways.

01/23/07 [3:35 AM]: Tatsuya - S-Radio Wide Shueisha Program, Episode 25
Did you all see it?

That reminds me, today I went to see, "Umm, Who Am I Again?" in which Tsuchiya-san's performing,
I laughed so hard I think I hurt my stomach muscles! I laughed so much～

All right!
Gotta call Eiki-san now!
"Didya hear??
01/19-02/11/07: Tuti, Saitou

Sorry guys, been super busy preparing for my JET Interview >_< Wish me luck, and have some Tuti and Saitou~!!

01/19/07 [1:13 AM]: Tuti - So blurry~

Lately things have gotten really dim and blurry.
I wonder why...
Even though the performance is getting closer,
Or maybe it's because the performance is getting closer?
Whenever I get home from rehearsals I feel so lazy.
But that's no good--so today I'm gonna watch a movie or something and go to bed.
--so with that I'm gonna drift off to sleep watching The Simpsons.
Just like always.

01/20/07 [12:10 AM]: Tuti - Lunch Break

--is a fun time.
Ayata-san makes sure to keep up with the breaks, I like it.
So today,
Muraoka-san bought some vegetables and cut them up,
And Kimura-san brought some salmon roe sent from his home in Hokkaido,
And Minemura-san brought some rice,
So it kind of felt like a picnic.

Okada-san was eating some ochadzuke with bean noodles or something, I'm not sure what it was,
So I finally asked him,
"That's not good, is it?"

Rehearsals sure are fun.

01/20/07 [10:25 PM]: Tuti - Delivery

There's a donut place in Shinjuku's southern terrace you can line up at,
Krispy Kreme
I had some of their donuts.
I'd heard rumors before, but...
They were really good.
They have lots of different kinds, so why don't you go try them?

Rehearsals end tomorrow, and for me who's been having fun over these past days, the main pair of Kobayashi-san and Okada-san easily break up a hard workload that would otherwise leave us all on the verge of passing out.
I bow my head to those two. [T/N: In English we'd probably say something like, "I tip my hat to those two."]
Okada-san is always getting mad at me and yelling, "Keep it up~!"

01/23/07 [12:42 AM]: Daiki-chan

Today was his birthday.
A party with a friend I can really relate to.
I got to hear a lot of stupid stories from him for the first time in a long while--of course they were all about himself.

Tomorrow we head to the theater.
Today I'm enjoying one last day off and preparing for a new tomorrow.

01/23/07 [9:15 PM]: Tuti - Haphazard

We managed to end safely.
Tomorrow we'll have a little practive, then the dress-rehearsal, and the performance.
This was the hardest day of rehearsal yet.

In the picture is Endou Yuuya, whom I've been running into a lot lately around town.
Today I ran into him again at the train station.

01/24/07 [4:51 PM]: Tuti - First Day

It's still a little bit before the curtain goes up, but as you can see I'm relaxing.
I can't remember how many years it's been since I've gone outside in the time between the dress rehearsal and actual performance.

01/25/07 [1:28 AM]: Tuti - 『Umm, Who Am I Again? ～Cash On Delivery～』

『Umm, Who Am I Again? ～Cash On Delivery～』
Playwright: Michael Cooney
Director: Ayata Toshiki
Starring: Kobayashi Takashi, Okada Tatsuya, Muraoka Nozomi, Saitou Ayumu, Eguchi Noriko, Tsuchiya Yuuichi, Jitsukawa Kimiko, Minemura Rie, Ayata Toshiki
Tickets: ￥6,800
January 24th ～ February 4th @ Aoyama Amphitheater

TOKYO
1/24 - 7:00 PM
1/25 - 7:00 PM
1/26 - 7:00 PM
1/27 - 2:00 PM, 7:00 PM
1/28 - 2:00 PM
1/29 - 7:00 PM
1/30 - 2:00 PM, 7:00 PM
1/31 - 7:00 PM
2/01 - 2:00 PM, 7:00 PM
2/02 - 7:00 PM
2/03 - 2:00 PM, 7:00 PM
2/04 - 2:00 PM

OSAKA
Tickets: ￥6,500
February 7th & 8th @ Osaka Theater Drama City
2/07 - 7:00 PM
2/08 - 7:00 PM

Details at↓
http://www.nevula.co.jp/etto/

01/26/07 [2:36 AM]: Tuti - 2nd Day

It's over.
Nothing went wrong as far as the work itself is concerned, but there were a few mess-ups, so I'll have to work on that for tomorrow.

Sense of Responsibility
I've been tormented by these words since elementary school.
I've never really felt this at all, personally. My report card would always say that I needed to work on that area, so I've tried to improve it some.
But when I'm on stage playing a role, I really concern myself with it.
It's something I've learned, after all.
Outside of playing a role, I feel like I can control what I've learned, but can't control what I've possessed all along.
For those people who've always had [a sense of responsibility], it's probably just natural for them, but for me, as an actor, it's really serious for me to decide to take the lead and take responsibility or not.
No matter where I am--it's always the same.

01/26/07 [10:14 PM]: Tuti - 3rd Day

Our third performance is over.

Today, counting the intermission, it took about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
There's a good bit of time from the start of the performance until I go on stage.
It's really important how you spend your time, so if I get ready too soon, I'll completely lose my concentration.
I'm not quite used to it yet--being backstage during the performance.

The picture is post-performance Kobayashi Takashi-san and Saitou Ayumu-san

01/28/07 [6:45 PM]: Tuti - Today

Two of the *pnish* guy came.
Now it's, "Well, let's go home!"

01/30/07 [4:41 PM]: Tuti - Apricot Seed

It's a mangoish sugary morning.
I got this in a delivery.
Rie-san saw this on the catering cart as well and was really happy.
あざーっす. [T/N: "Azassu" is a cutesy shortening of "arigatou gozaimasu" XD It was too cute to translate ♥]

This is our rest time between the Osaka afternoon and evening performances.
I'm gonna have some curry.

02/06/07 [1:06 AM]: Tuti - ♪Happy

Birthday
to meee~

I'm having a quiet bottle of champagne at home.

28 years old.
Gonna make it a good year~

02/07/07 [1:29 AM]: Tuti - Hey...

Thanks for leaving all those comments.
That's some heavy pressure.
I'm sure there are some of you who randomly saw one of my roles and decided they liked me.
But the kind of actor you come to like more than just for the roles I play,
That's the kind of actor I'm going to become.
I want to become that kind of actor.
A really great one.

Gotta keep working hard.

02/07/07 [9:59 PM]: Tuti - Osaka

We finished the first day.
I was able to get through this performance more relaxed than the Tokyo run.
The hotel's pretty comfortable, too.

02/09/07 [4:30 PM]: Tuti - Performance Over

Thank you for your support.
Did you all enjoy yourselves?
This performance--it really taught me a lot.

The way the two Nylon troupe actresses grasped their roles in the performance,
And the way Ayata-san walked...etc etc
In this play, with a bunch of people who love performing all gathered together, there was a lot I received from communicating with everyone.
I'm really glad I got to perform in this play.
Thank you all so much.

Right now I'm back in Tokyo, and just finished a *pnish* meeting.
Tomorrow's PaniSuta. I'll be hosting alone, and the guests will be
Goumoto Naoya and Kurihara Kouhei from Bleach.
I hope we get to talk a lot.

02/11/07 [4:10 PM]: Tuti - PaniSuta

The guests were these two--thaaaanks~
It's been almost two months now [T/N: two months since he last hosted, he means :P]
Did all of you standing in front of the studio notice how nervous I was, I wonder～?
I guess because of that, I feel like it was a more choppy, sharper broadcast than usual.
And there were a lot of birthday emails, too.
Congrats to you all~

Before PaniSuta I went to see Santies, and just a little while ago I went to see Daiki-chan's play.
I've been heading around seeing *pnish* without any breaks since I got back to Tokyo. Everyone's so busy～
The Santies were choppy in a pleasant way; I feel like their unusual team work will lead to something nice and new in the future.
And Daiki-chan gave an enthusiastic performance as well--he's really working hard.

01/20/07 [12:35 AM]: Saitou - 【Happy Catch Ball】

Whatever you throw will come back to you.
If you don't throw it, it won't come back.

Pleasant
Enjoyable
Happy
I love you
I really like you
Thank you
I'm here with you

These are all words of blessing.
And the urge
To say these words
Is falling upon me again.

by Kobayashi Seikan

01/26/07 [6:57 PM]: Saitou - 【RECOMMENDATIONS】

～Film～
『Crash』
Director: Paul Haggis

『The Constant Gardner』
Director: Fernando Meirelles

『Hotel Rwanda』
Director: Terry George

『The Butterfly Effect』
Director: Eric Bress and J.
Dark of the Bleeding Moon Interviews: Tuti (+ Eiki), Nagayan

With the release of Dark of the Bleeding Moon on DVD recently, I went back through old BuriMyu archives and realized I had never formally translated these two interviews. Check them out, they're tons of fun :DDDDD

Rock Musical Bleach - The Dark of the Bleeding Moon

Interview with Ichimaru Gin's actor, Tsuchiya Yuuichi, and Kira Izuru's actor, Kitamura Eiki

Interviewer: So, have you seen the announcement in 『Weekly Shounen Jump』?
Both: Yes!
Eiki: (looks at the magazine again) There we are! (points to the picture)
Tuti: Yup, there we are. 1, 2, 3...5! Five Tsuchiyas! Five Tsuchiyas across two pages! That's 2.5 Tsuchiyas per page!

Interviewer: Have you checked out the website as well?
Tuti: Yup, saw it, saw it.
Eiki: I haven't seen it yet.
Tsuchiya: It's got this really flowing feel to it, I was surprised.

Interviewer: Kitamura-san, you started participating in Saien, who do you find it easiest to converse with in the cast?
Eiki: Hmm...Kimi-chan, I guess.
Tuti: Not me?
Eiki: You're easy to talk to, too, but...it's a little different feeling with you.
Tuti: It is? How?
Eiki: You've got this really heavy atmosphere to you. When you're really focused on your performance, it's like, "Don't talk to me."
Tuti: (haha) Ah, yeah--during the performance, that's right.

Interviewer: And during rehearsals?
Tuti: Nah, it's not like that.
Eiki: During rehearsals as well--he gives off this overflowing aura, this guy.
Tuti: Well after all, I am overflowing!

Interviewer: During the 「Hallelujah, Goodbye」 dance rehearsal, everyone was learning the moves in their own way, but apparently you were having some trouble, Kitamura-san.
Eiki: Everyone else was going about it in their own way. What about you?
Tuti: Yup (haha) I was really surprised when I came to rehearsals late.
Eiki: For me, rather than being surprised at them all, it kind of got me down (haha) Like, 'I've gotta get this down!'
Tuti: Yeah. But, when you came into the cast, you really changed the atmosphere. Next time it's a new performance, though, we've gotta get through it even though we're nervous.

Interviewer: Tsuchiya-san, how did you feel when you learned during Saien that Kira Izuru would be joining the cast?
Tuti: It was like, "Yay, I get a subordinate, too, now!" (haha) Sure there's Kira's relationship established with Momo and Renji and all, but he's got something special in his relationship with Gin as well, so I felt that something could come from that. Plus it was Eiki playing him, I figured things would at least be interesting.

Interviewer: So after performing together, what do you think?
Tuti: It was really fun!
Eiki: But...what about that? At first...
Tuti: Ah, right. See, at first, when I heard that Eiki would be playing Kira Izuru, I didn't think he fit the part. In the original work, Kira Izuru comes off as this wimp, and Eiki himself is completely different, he's got a real handle on himself. But when I saw him during the pamphlet shoot, he was completely Izuru. I was really surprised.
Eiki: I was surprised, too! (haha) But really, I'm glad that Tuti's the one I'm working with. Even when it came to Kira's loyalty, because we already have this trusting relationship, it was easiest to show that trusting side.
Tuti: Yeah, when you put it that way it was easy to do. Eiki's different from the rest of the cast, a new type, when it comes to the quality of his performance. The other members like performing, too, but Eiki, rather than not liking performing, is the type it just comes naturally to. I'm more of a, "likes to perform," type myself, so it was really interesting performing together.

Interviewer: So what were your favorite scenes?
Tuti: The one I liked starting back in rehearsals is the one where Momo says to Kira, "Heyheyhey~ do you know where Aizen-taichou is?" It's like--'Kitamura Eiki, cornered and questioned by a middle school girl!' (haha) That exchange is really funny--I cracked up laughing by myself.
Eiki: For us it was like, "Hey, we're working hard here! What's so funny?" (haha) I guess there are two scenes I liked. One was drawing my sword against Hinamori, and when we tried to fight having Toushirou stop us and say with his back turned, "Not another move, you two." I really like that moment. And the other was the singing scene between Toushirou and Gin.
Tuti: Ah, was it now~ (haha)
Eiki: It's scenes like that that show the relationship between 'liking performing' and it being something totally different.
Tuti: Yup, that's right.

Interviewer: Any memories from rehearsals or the performance itself?
Tuti: It was really fun chasing each other around in the audience seats to warm up before the performance. All the guys would chase around Kumi-chan (haha).
Eiki: That was a pretty good warm-up, huh!
Tuti: Everyone would be acting like a bunch of idiots, "Waaah~!!"
Eiki: It was a little scary at times, like something out of Terminator 2 (haha)
Tuti: Yeah yeah (haha)
Eiki: At first we pretended to be 'yamakashi'
Tuti: Yeah, we played 'yamakashi.' Have you heard of it? It's where you use the wall and try to jump off away from it.
Eiki: It was like a three-point jump. We used to do that all the time to warm-up.
Tuti: You're all so agile.
Eiki: The 3rd Squad is really agile!

Interviewer: Looking at each other's characters, what parts do you think they share, and how are they different?
Eiki: For me, there's no one but Tsuchiya Yuuichi who could do Gin.
Tuti: (haha) Oh, really?
Eiki: But, he's the kind of guy who can turn himself on and off, and when you see an 'off' Tuti, it's kind of...disappointing.
Tuti: (haha) I get that all the time.
Eiki: But an 'on' Tsuchiya Yuuichi is a perfect Gin. Everyone says that behind his back.
Tuti: It's cool, huh.
Kita: You can feel this hugeness to him. So it's really easy performing with him. And maybe it's because the relationship between Kitamura Eiki and Tsuchiya Yuuichi turned that way on its own.
Tuti: I fele that sense of trust, myself, too. But just the opposite, Izuru and Eiki are--as I mentioned before--really similar as far as looks go...but other than that it doesn't feel like he has that many similar points to Eiki usually. Yeah, none really.
Eiki: Do you know why?
Tuti: Nope.
Eiki: Because I can't stand his type of character.
Tuti: (haha) What, you hate guys like him?
Eiki: Well, not hate really, (aside from acting as them) if I don't keep telling myself they're nothing like me, I'll get sucked into him. And I can't stand that.
Tuti: Ah, I get it. If there's no hurdle to overcome, your characterization's incomplete.
Eiki: Right. So, I'm a really slow starter. It's like, first I'll put on my costume, and then my wig, and then I'll start getting into character.
Tuti: So like before, talking about my on/off switch, you've got that too. And when you're on, you're really into your performance, and it makes others feel like they can relax. When I think about that, compared with the other members, we two 3rd Squad members might be the two who carry the biggest burden, and yet have to over come it to get into character.
Eiki: I see...
Tuti: There, I said it (haha)

Interviewer: There are lots of new characters, are you looking forward to any in particular?
Tuti: Firstly--Rangiku's (Inoue Harumi) costume, and how Shougo-san (Saraki Kenpachi's actor) will portray his character, and I'm curious as to how Usui-san (Madarame Ikkaku), a senpai from my theatre troupe days, will behave once he's gone skinhead.
Eiki: For me, I've come from the position of thinking of myself as the only new character, and now I'm at this kind of middle ground, and kind of worried like, "What's gonna happen?"...It's like, "Hey, wasn't that guy in the first performance, too?" (haha)
Tuti: (haha)
Eiki: Well, I wonder how it'll go...I'm expecting great things from everyone. I want to see how everyone relates to everyone else. I'm betting everyone in the cast's performances will shift and change.
Tuti: Yeah, that's right. There are lots of people with a lot of theatre experience, I'm really excited.
Eiki: I've seen Shougo-san perform once before, he's got great timing.
Tuti: Plus he's an adult--the atmosphere of the rehearsal hall changes with the influx of older members.
Eiki: It does. First we had Eiji-san and Tuti!
Tuti: Yeah, it changed like, bam! (haha)
Eiki: I just can't stand a tense atmosphere. It's like, let's just have fun!
Tuti: Well then...I'll leave you to that.

Interviewer: Well, give us your thoughts on the new work. What do you want everyone to see most when they look at you?
Tuti: Well, I'm just as nervous over my accent as usual. As for what I want everyone to look at...in the [Absolute Being] and [A Human Who Can Do Nothing] parts, I hope to be able to show something new...as Gin.
Eiki: I feel like we've shown everyone a perfect 3rd Squad so far, but I'm going to be a little cocky and suggest that we'll be able to show something even more than that this time. Also, what I want everyone to see...gotta be my dancing!! 「I've gotten a little better at holding myself, so if you could please look over it...」
Tuti: But you probably won't have much chance...
Eiki: Yeah, probably not.
Tuti: I bet you could ask the director, Tsutsumi-san, though--you might get the chance!
Eiki: You think... Well, I guess I want everyone to look at the whole me, then. I wanna see me, too!

Interview with Hitsugaya Toushirou's actor, Nagayama Takashi

Interviewer: Well, Hitsugaya Toushirou has finally gotten himself a fuku-taichou, Matsumoto Rangiku. What do you think?
Nagayan: At long last! I've been waiting for this! During the last performance of the previous show, I was already getting ready for this day when I adlibbed, "Where'd Matsumoto go?" I was already making plans, you see. Well, the audience probably just thought I slipped, though. But thanks to that, the meaning behind that adlib has finally come to light and connected with this performance... Actually, it's just an excuse (haha). Thanks to Rangiku's inclusion, my relationship with those around me is going to grow and shift again, just as it did before when Kira came in. It makes it really easy to perform, and I think it'll be really easy for the audience members to understand as well.

Interviewer: Have you already met Rangiku's actress, Inoue Harumi-san?
Nagayan: We met during the pamphlet shoot. At that time I introduced myself with, "I'm Nagayama, Hitsugaya Toushirou's actor." Thought I'd appeal to her, like, "I'm your captain!" (haha). But she's really a dead ringer, Rangiku without a doubt. Hinamori is very important to Hitsugaya, but he's got a lot of interaction with Rangiku as well, and while he may show his true self when he's around Hinamori, you conversly see the everyday Hitsugaya, the working one, when he's with Rangiku. So the times when I'm at my most serious, adult Hitsugaya is around Matsumoto, and with that in mind I feel like I can display my captain-ness most with I'm with Matsumoto.

Interviewer: Sounds like it's really something to look forward to.
Nagayan: It sure is. Everyone who's been watching the previous shows has been telling me they can't wait to see the new performance. And this time, since it'll be encompassing the storyline from the 15th and 16th volumes, there'll be lots of scenes that'll appeal especially to fans of the original manga, so I hope they're all looking forward to it. I hope I can give a performance that lives up to their expectations.

Interviewer: On the previous post-performance survey, there were comments that your height matched Hitsugaya's really well. Is there anything else you strive for when getting into character?
Nagayan: Well, it's kinda complicated (haha) ...but I'm grateful for that. But 133cm is pretty impossible, and I only realized this recently but he's 28kg! (haha) [T/N: For the metric challenged: 133cm = 4'4", and 28kg = 62 lbs]...that's pretty impossible, too. For me, I concentrated on spreading my legs and stooping more to appear smaller, but I don't really worry over it as much as you might think. Rather than focusing on how to look small, I think it's more important to focus on how he's felt by others. But I've worked hard to look shorter than Hinamori. If I manage it in the performance, I'll be happy to have succeeded. But it's tough on my thighs! (haha)

Interviewer: It's been one year now since you started playing Hitsugaya, have there been any changes in your feelings towards the role compared with the beginning?
Nagayan: When I land a new role, I basically start from getting closer to my character, so in that sense nothing's really changed... Back during the first performance, we were performing a 「Rock Musical」 that deviated from the original work, pointing in a new direction. So I really emphasized the parts that were closest to me, and worked more towards entertaining. But as expected, the fans of the original work wanted something closer to the original characters. And all of us also felt like we weren't as close to our characters as we could be. So, we revised that in the Saien. And now we can understand our own characters' feelings and actions better, and everyone's getting used to their roles. That could only be because we had the luxury of the first performance and the Saien, I think. And I feel that thanks to all the fans who've come to see it, we've gotten a better feel for this world. In that sense as well, I hope we can make something new to show everyone.

Interviewer: You've been involved in lots of different productions up until now. What exactly is it about musicals that intrigues you?
Nagayan: The fact that you can really just let yourself go, and that sense of unity--those are most important to me. It's the audience, and my costars who make this performance possible together. When that hall fills up, I love the atmosphere present at that point.

Interviewer: When do you feel that sense of unity?
Nagayan: I guess, when I see the faces of the audience. I can really feel that they're having a good time, and it makes me really happy when they call out, "Shiro-chan!" I feel this really pleasant sense of unity when I feel how much they're enjoying themselves. Really, musicals are fun. It was tough at first...I wasn't quite sure how I felt running around and suddenly breaking into song. But when you're actually doing it, it's no different from any other stage performance in terms of acting, and I realized that there are things that song and dance can relate as well. So with that in mind I found a new way of expressing myself, and now I feel really glad that I've done musicals.

Interviewer: You've honed your acting, singing, and dancing skills, but which are you worst at?
Nagayan: I don't think I'm really bad at any of them now, I suppose. At first my singing and dancing were no good, but when I started thinking of them as just other ways of acting, like, "Sing as your character," "Dance as your character," I got better... But, I'd never played a character like Hitsugaya before, so it was difficult to do things, "--as your character." And in the first show I released those feelings that Hitsugaya keeps hidden inside himself, while in the Saien I modified it a little. So...I guess it's a balance, in more ways than one. And even when I open my mouth, it's more natural for me to speak as, "Nagayama Takashi," rather than, "As my character," and the same with my dancing...I hope in the future to delve further into my existence, "As my character."

Interviewer: This time the story's going all the way to when Ichigo comes to rescue Rukia from the execution scaffold--do you have any scenes you're particularly interested in?
Nagayan: That brings up the problem of how do you portray a scaffold scene... For me personally, I'm looking forward to the scene with Hinamori, Ichimaru, Kira, Rangiku, and Hitsugaya all five getting involved in investigating Aizen's death. Like, how should I portray the stream of feelings that come from the final explosion of Hitsugaya's hidden suspicions about Ichimaru, how do people want me to portray it... and I'm excited about the air-fight with Hinamori. Oh, also, how will they show 'Hyourinmaru'? Personally I want to do something really flashy, myself.

Interviewer: Any other scenes outside of those you're in as Hitsugaya?
Nagayan: I really wanna see Suzuki Shougo-san's (Kenpachi's actor) fight. And Madarame too--I want to see all the new members and their fights with Ichigo, they're all great scenes. With that in mind because there are new members joining this time, all the other cast members are motivated more, feel a new power within them, it's exciting. And especially with Suzuki-san and Inoue-san's entrance, they were really something to look up to, and our performances also went up a level, it felt.

Interviewer: It feels like a different color comes out with each different squad--what do you think about the 10th Squad?
Nagayan: Yeah, that's true. The different squads do have different colors. Last time, the interaction between Ichimaru and Kira--rather, Tuti and Eiki, was nice, so I hope to show something that good this time with Inoue-san. I've gotten by up to now with his affection towards Hinamori and suspicion towards Ichimaru, but this time in addition to that there's the plus of his concern for Matsumoto, so I hope to diligently portray these three pillars.

Interviewer: This performance is a real stamina battle, do you do anything in your day to day life to prepare for this?
Nagayan: I don't really do my in particular. I'll just do the obvious things--whether it be in stretching, sleeping, keeping my throat in good condition, being careful of getting injured, everything one might expect. I don't want to leave anything incomplete, so I'm not thinking about anything but that. In the past I've overworked myself and paid the price for that, so it's also important that I not overdo it.

Interviewer: Who's your favorite 『BLEACH』 character?
Nagayan: Gotta be Hitsugaya, of course. As for who I'd like to play...Kaien, maybe? Or the visually appealing Ukitake. And I'd like to do Gin, too--the Kyouto dialect seems tough, but he seems like a fun role portraying that stubborness and lewdness... But I've gotta work hard getting closer to Hitsugaya, myself! (haha)

Interviewer: On that note, which of the female characters is your type?
Nagayan: Yoruichi's pretty fascinating, and Soifon, too. Those two are really cool. And then...hmm, my type, huh... Hinamori's too straight-forward, and Rangiku's too sexy...Orihime's nice, though... I can't choose! Everyone's fine (haha)

Interviewer: Well then, how about your thoughts for the performance!
Nagayan: I say the same thing every time (haha) but Hitsugaya's a really fascinating character, so I'll work to show that, and take responsibility for portraying him that way.

Interviewer: And a message for those looking at the home page.
Nagayan: With the introduction of new members, the performance has changed as well, so I feel that this'll be a better performance than any we've had so far. Scenes that are popular even in the original work will show themselves, so those of you who've seen Rock Musical 『BLEACH』 before, and those of you who haven't as well--look forward to it!
