So, thanks to the lovely nikki_aino's alerting me to this fact, Nagayama Takashi's old blog entries (from before he moved to his current one) have been archived by the WaybackMachine here, from around mid 2004 to early 2006. There's a LOT here that hasn't been translated before, and I'm going to tackle it as an attempt to get back into the translating groove XD

These entries are sometimes quite long, which calls to mind the question of why he stopped being so wordy, but for now just sit back and enjoy. The pictures that accompany the entries were not archived, but when possible and pertinent, I will try and include a description of what the image was. If anyone DOES have the image for this date, feel free to upload it and I'll link it here :) Text in italics is the link text for the picture.

I went and said I'd try my best to write on Monday [the day before], and here I am having just gotten home frantic to write...or rather, I'm sitting here mumbling to myself. Tomorrow I've got an interview first thing in the morning da~ne. And of course it's a TeniMyu one da~ne. And the day after that is an F2 session da~ne. Da~ne... It's nice being able to work every day da~ne. I'm gonna work hard and stay pumped so people don't say things like, 'Wow you look tired'!" Well, see you later da~ne~

Today was a hot Tanabata! I never knew this, but Orihime and Hikoboshi weren't really like Romeo and Juliet, with a love that could never be--they were actually husband and wife (whether they were real or not, I don't know). Supposedly they were too close with each other and always together, so they never did anything else, and were made to separate...?? Well, I actually don't know the real truth... Today was TeniMyu and F2 practice, and then I went to have a feast for dinner... And there a Tanabata miracle occurred. Kime-chan treated me. Kirakira...or something like that! And now I'm watching K-1 on tape~!!! Friday I'm not doing F2, so I'm going out on location. Those of you who were planning to come see it, be careful!!! (ala Nagai Hidekazu)

So hot...as usual for a Monday. Today I didn't have to go into rehearsals. Where'd the rainy season go... <--that's how hot it's been lately with day after day of heat. Lately I've been on this health kick, working hard to make sure I don't get hurt and I don't wear out my body. Yogurt, soy flour, dried mangoes, vegetable juice, eel, soy milk, really I'm eating anything that seems good for my body. After all, mess up your body and you'll lose it! There's just 17 more days til the next TeniMyu. It's coming along very nicely, so look forward to it!! Oh, changing the subject here, but around July 25th I'm planning on releasing three new Blossam items: a tank top, a cap, and another tanktop! I'll update with more details later, so stop bugging Gain for them~ (＾＠＾) Also, I've heard that Blossam is popping up on Yahoo auctions, too. It's sad that people buy it for that reason. Of course, after you've paid for it, it's yours to do whatever you want with, but please understand that that's the reason some other people can't buy any at all. Aaaallll right! I'm gonna work hard at rehearsals tomorrow!!! Everyone, take care of yourselves!!

When you can't bring yourself to laugh, when you've got to laugh, when you can't help but laugh. There are lots of different kinds of laughing. I wonder, can something good come from all of them...? At the Mutter Courage Tokyo performance, even though it was all voluntary, a lot of flowers came congratulating us. I was so happy then, and laughed, "Thank you!" When I met up with a friend for the first time in a while for lunch, as usual--when I said I wanted to eat rice, I got dragged to a curry restaurant with a, "We'll have some nan, please," and without even thinking I blew out a laugh... When a tooth filling I'd just gotten treated at the dentist came out with my gum...it was nothing to laugh at...but I couldn't help it.... Aah, ceramic. You just can't laugh at that though (;_;)

2005's trying to end. But, I wanted to consider a few things before it became 2006... What exactly does it mean to be an "adult"?

This question has been floating around inside my head lately. I, Nagayama Takashi, am now 27 years old. In public this is generally thought of as an "adult" age. But, am I an adult just because I've passed 20? Am I an adult if I'm working? Am I an adult if I'm earning money? Am I an adult if I'm self-reliant? Am I an adult if I have kids? Am I an adult if I'm calm and mature? I mean, they call it 'otonashii' after all. Are big people adults? Does that mean since I'm short, I'm not? Maybe because I think things like that, or want to BE an adult, or think that I am, when I'm able to sense things like that, regardless of my age, maybe that makes me an adult. Thank you, 2005.

The ones who'll open their mouths when trying to put medicine drops in their eyes. I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who have to take out a piece of hard candy they've just started eating and put it in their cupholders. I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who, when they blow their noses, will actually check the tissue after they do it. I've seen this kind of person before... The ones who check their messages and see there are 0 new ones, then check again, and again, and still see no new ones. They know there aren't any, and yet they still do it, so I just find it funny.

Today I can relax a bit before the performance.
Thanks to the oil massage I got yesterday I feel like most of my tiredness is gone now.
Right now Kitamura Izuru is practicing dancing. But this pose isn't his.

It's finished safely.
Thank you for all your support.
As the musical version of Gin--
This time, to put it simply, seeing as I don't have many lines, I'm placing mroe emphasis on my gestures and presence.
There are lots of mysterious points this performance, and while there are a lot of tough parts where I wasn't sure

exactly how to act, I'm going to give it my best.
Kubo-sensei came to yesterday's after-party, it was a really great time.

So with that, I thought I'd have a drink today and got out the champagne. And on top of that it's a vintage.
I've been holding back on the alcohol lately, so I thought something like this for once... and for my throat, I've switched

to cigarettes that will hurt it less.

This week's PaniSuta guests will be Kitamura Eiki-kun and Katou Manabu-kun.

03/30/07 [1:41 AM]: Tuti - Plays and More Plays

Today I went to see two performances.
With that it was actually a pretty nice day.

In the afternoon, I saw Tsubaki-gumi's, "Summer's Island, Spring's Song."
And in the evening, I saw Rappaya's, "My Wife's Family."
It's really tough going to see two plays in one day, but both were great so it was a nice day.

For the afternoon Tsubaki show, I was in the same play six or seven years ago. At that time it was called, "And Springs

Waters Become a Streaming River."
I'm very familiar with what a great work this is.
There are a lot of people who say to this day that it's their favorite of the plays I've been in so far.
And this is my first time seeing someone else performing in a role I performed in before.
I was really excited going to see it.
My role was performed by a member of the Bungaku company who was the same age as me.
And actually, it was with this role that I had my first and so far only love scene.
I watched the play, remembering everything that had happened.
It was really a great performance.
There was this entertainment feel to it I didn't get at first when I'd done it, and I could really feel the spot-on

directing, it was enough to make one weep.
Chon-san is really a great writer.

In the evening was Rappaya.
The truth is, I'm a huge fan of this troupe.
It was a thrilling performance.
Thanks to the unusual length of the performance, I got a real shock when I checked my watch after the show.
In the wake of last year's, "Tomorrow's News," I got to see a whole new side to them, and the final sense of unity it left

was amazing.
If you have the time, I definitely recommend going to see it.

Now, normally I don't write this sort of thing. Since it's the internet, I like to avoid negative comments.
So when I really enjoy something, I'll write about it, seriously.
So please think that when I say I didn't really get the underlying meaning of a play or wasn't moved by it, that just

means I thought it was boring.

It started raining immediately after the show ended and I wound up getting soaked.
I still hurried along to the station, but I hope those of you who came to the studio were all right.
Please be careful of catching cold.
Still, today was really fun.
Bullying Gaku when we got on a backstage-high, we went a little wild.
While Daiki-chan wrote in his letter for us not to get out of hand, of course we did.
We've still gotthe Hyougo performance, so we couldn't say much in the way of spoilers, but we told a lot of goofy

stories.

04/09/07 [12:31 PM]: Tuti - BLEACH Ended

Thank you for your support.
We were able to successfully make it to senshuuraku.

This time I had kind of a flying start with my villain role, and got to experience a lot of new things.
I feel like with this final installment, I've finally become able to stand on stage as Ichimaru Gin.
Even as a subordinate it felt at times like he was manipulating Aizen.
I was able to feel that freshness, it was a great line of performances.
Thank you all so much for your support.

Today, without any chance to rest, I was up early in the morning headed back to Tokyo for a *pnish* TV interview.
It started yesterday on SkyPerfect/TheatreTV.
*pnish*'s first regular TV show, one year long, with website linkage and everything.
Please stick with us this year.

04/12/07 [10:35 PM]: Tuti - 『Gorgeous, or Perhaps Brilliant』

On Tuesday we had a meet-and-greet, and read through the script a bit.
Yesterday we read the script the whole way through for the first time.
I'm sooooo tired.

There's a good few lines of course, but I really felt how this is a play that's going to require my focus the whole time.
At the meet-and-greet the script-wrter Iijima-san also came. I'm glad I got to talk with him a little but I was sooo

nervous.
This is a really intense 4-person drama. I'm having fun already just from reading the script, but this was my first meet-

and-greet that comprised only 5 people with the director.
We talked a little, idle chatter, and I could feel that this was going to be something that required good communication,

but thanks to Leader's spontaneous joke, he managed to get a little laughter out of me.

We'll be doing it again this year.
The *pnish* festival that comes but once a year--*pnish*'s formation anniversary, July 1st.
Let's all celebrate together then~
Today we had a meeting to discuss it.
It's really been a while since we all gathered together to have a meeting.
As usual, Daiki-chan talked our ears off about his own recent affairs, and Wasshi wound up being a god listener...

Today we have the day off from "Gorgeous" rehearsals.

04/19/07 [10:43 PM]: Tuti - Gonna do it!

Today we had "Gorgeous" rehearsals.

We're working on the performance and perfecting it day by day.
There's a lot of pressure that I feel like I've not experienced before.

But with all my costars and everything, it's really wonderful, I'm getting a good bit of help.

When I heard the official word on the casting, I thought, Wow, if it's these castmates, I think I might be able to rely on

them and pull this off.

Now as the days go by I'm further deepening this trusting relationship with them.
With this performance, the relationships present now will transfer seamlessly to the work itself, and day by day the play will change.

It's fun, as by that it feels like a living thing, but thinking that my own actions will connect to the play itself, all these delicate parts are a little scary.

Not trusting one another enough, or something going wrong. Sure, I've felt like those kinds of things were bad before, and tried to keep them from happening, but this time it can't be that way.

I want to make this a good performance--I want to make this something great.
It's important for me not to waver in those feelings.
It's like, if I don't do this now, then when will I?

This week I'll be hosting PaniSuta.
We'll have my Gorgeous costars Hibi-san and Oikawa-san as guests.

Those of you who watched outside, thank you very much.
Those of you online, were you able to view it properly? Trying so hard on the website, it looks like you had quite a battle with the sound more so than the video...

And just as Moriyama-san predicted, today I was pushy as usual.
The two guests said they enjoyed themselves, though. They're so adult. The progress of the program wasn't that great.
We talk a lot in the rehearsal hall of course, but being in another place like this is a different kind of fun.
And there's only 4 cast members this time.
The way no one's personalities seem to overlap is a lot like *pnish*. It's kind of fun.

I've announced the June 14-16th event.
I'll give out details as they come.

04/23/07 [1:38 AM]: Tuti - Banana Java Chocolate

I ordered something sweet from Starbucks, something I don't usually do. I was able to down it better than I thought, actually, but it kind of bugged me having all the whipped cream left over.

Today I went to see my favorite troupe, Modern Swimmers, with Kei-san after rehearsals were over.
It was a twist I haven't seen from Modern lately.
You could feel the adultness in it.
The adultness of Takada-san and Yoshigawa-san who appeared as guests was really evident.
It was a performance overflowing with nervousness.
But the last scene was impressive; I could really feel I'd gotten the feel for the play as it neared the end.

Rehearsals are going well.
I haven't gotten quite into character yet, though.
But rather than making this a performance focused on one person,
I think I should make it one showing human weakness through what I show.
This is something I've learned this year.

Information has been upped to the *pnish* site.
This will be the 10th Anniversary Event for the actor, Tsuchiya Yuuichi.
I'm starting preparations now.
I'll talk, do some other things, I'm still trying to decide.
Please look forward to it.

In the rehearsal hall we all tried on glasses, and took pictures.
Though only one of us wears glasses in the play...
This time a business named 'Loyd' is providing the glasses, and apparently they have all kinds of things from the early Showa era, not just glasses.
So everyone's testing them out.
I think I'm gonna show them off to Yuzawa-san, since he likes Loyd so much.
The cast this time is made up of four guys.
The roles are a little like *pnish* so you might have fun watching us...

Today's a rehearsal hall pic.
Modern Boys Team--1 shot.

With the director's guidance, we've gotten down our communication with perseverance.
But even still, I've realized that it's so we can make the play come alive.
It's a strange 4-man play, with a lot of dialogue.
This performance, I've received a lot of thoughts and feelings within this play from the other three guys.
Those real thoughts and feelings are one thing you should look for.

My digital camera broke, so lately I've been taking nothing but cellphone pictures. I've gotta send it off for repairs soon.

My muscles really are sore.
And I'm in the middle of rehearsals too.
I can't believe I did this--it's from too little exercise...
The reason I've been so easily tired lately is undoubtedly from my muscle mass going down.

This is the first time I've felt so out of sorts with the performance getting so close.
I feel like I need to get out...
"Is this all right? Is that all right?"
"Have I gotten rid of everything I was uneasy about with my role?"

The other day, I got this text message from Iwashita-kun from AirGear Myu rehearsals:

「I wish Yuzawa would just drop dead.」

Eeeh??
What's this?!
Yuzawa-san--what sort of rash thing did you say to Iwashita-kun?!
What kind of bad joke did you make to tick him off?

This should have been the first meet-and-greet of the Air Gear musical...
I was so surprised that the usually gentle Iwashita-kun would send me such a cold, frank message.
I got really worried.

「What happened?」 I replied with, frantic. And when I did...

「Yuzawa-san sent the last message himself.」...came the reply.

...This one, of course, being sent by Iwashita-kun.
So I got all worried by myself for nothing...

Yesterday was, amazingly enough, a TeniMyu class reuinion at Kime-chan's place!☆
Most of the first cast members gathered there☆☆☆
It was super special☆o(^-^)o
And then-then-then Ueshima-sensei came too! That got the party really started☆(^0^)/
And of course I drank my fair share of sake（haha）
I had rehearsals the next day, though, so I held back some(>_<)

We watched the first TeniMyu and the GradMyu DVD together, and it was all "Aah!" and "Oh this!" while reminiscing, it was a lot of fun (^0^)/

On that note, there were some people who left, and others who came after them, so more gathered☆

Reeeaaaallly, having so many guests come to see us, I feel like we made this a really great success☆☆☆
Reading the surveys, everyone's talking about how much they had fun, it makes me really happy(T_T)☆☆☆
And speaking of the survey, seeing that almost everyone filled one out made me so happy I could cry☆(T_T)

This performance, with all the staff members having such a good time, being able to be involved in this and having them all say, "I laughed every time!" was just.......o(^-^)o
For me, if it's not FUN, it's not a proper performance, I feel.
And that doesn't mean just messing around and having fun, but to really enjoy oneself from the bottom of your heart.

So to have not only we the actors but the staff as well enjoy themselves, and to have the audience members have fun too,
We'll be aiming from now on for more warm plays that will leave impressions on your heart like this!!!!!!!(>_<)

Tonight is Glossoralia, which Wasshi's in.
He's really worked hard.

It's two performances, divided into men and women sets.
This is a work that the Bicycle Kinkliets Company put on back in '93 and '98.
It's said to be the production that made Kyou Shinsuke-san famous, and this time I'll be playing the same role tha he played back then.

03/12/07 [8:19 PM]: Tuti - On week left of rehearsals

BLEACH rehearsals are over for today.
This time due to time constraints, I haven't been able to come to rehearsals that much. But then there hasn't really been much need to.
This time I feel like there's a lot to compare with previous performances. It's always nice when you feel like your performance has gotten better.
Since I'm not really together with Izuru much, I thought I'd take a picture with Eiki for a change, along with the rehearsal hall stress relief toy, Gaku.
This time, performance-wise, will see big shifts in my relationships and how I feel towards people--I feel this more and more each day.

Lately it's gotten super cold.
The wind and cold are especially tough in the area around the rehearsal hall.

Yesterday I watched 「Hi-sasu」 from 14 years ago on Skapa, it was really funny.

Today after BLEACH rehearsals, I went out for yakiniku with Moriyama-san and some of the staff members.
When I say Moriyama-san, I of course mean from *pnish*, that super-strong taichou.
Saying things like, "And now we'll completely flip over the net of meat after it's been thoroughly cooked~"
...the "net."
I've got to hand it to Moriyama-san for trying to use the complete opposite side instead of just turning it some.
He is, without a doubt, *pnish*'s simple genius.

Lately Suzuki Shougo-san, who usually performs pretty quietly and seriously, has been asking me, "Do you think I'm kinda like Eiji?"

I went to see it.
It was really crowded--as to be expected from a really popular group.
I'm kinda tired from the really straining, hard performance, but I'm glad I went.
The producing was amaaaaazing.
The aristry, sound, lights, the play itself.
I really strongly realized that it's the kind of balance you can't find anywhere but on stage.
It was a really effective use of the time I had until we finally enter the theater tomorrow for BLEACH.
I've been having these strange muscle pains for the past two days of rehearsals, but at last it's the real performance the day after tomorrow.

Moriyama-san appears to be replinishing his lost sleep after taking off his makeup.
He's probably got it tough, having to go into rehearsals earlier than me...

I'm have a confession to make.
I'm actually...a really weak person.

It's been a few days now since 'that incident' happened,
In Shibuya, at a certain ramen shop.
At this shop, you can order the "gold bowl," or "silver bowl," or any number of different ramen bowls, so I ordered a ticket for the "gold bowl" as if it was, "the usual" when I'd only been inside once before.
I sat down at the counter and gave my ticket to the guy working the kitchen, stating what oil, noodles, and flavor I wanted. All that was left was to await my gold-bowl-chan...
It was then that a Vietnamese man in his 40s came in and took the seat beside me.
He looked kind of like a, "Kon-san," to me, so I'll refer to him hereafter as, "Kon-san."
Kon-san looked as if he couldn't speak Japanese, but amazingly enough he managed to order simply by gesturing.

After a few more minutes of waiting, at long last it came out, carried towards me from the kitchen.
...or so I thought, but it passed me right by and was set down in front of Kon-san.
We ordered the same thing? Great minds think alike, huh Kon-chan~
Wait a minute...I ordered mine first, this is a little fishy!
But, paying no mind to the conflicts of the young Japanese man sitting next to him, Kon-san began eating his delicious ramen.

Of course, Ambassador of Peace Saitou could not possibly remain quiet about this, but when I went to call out to the manager...
...a gorgeous bowl of ramen, the likes of which I'd never met before, came out of the kitchen and began to make its way towards me in slow motion.

At that moment I finally understood what had happened.
This gorgeous bowl of ramen was the most expensive one sold at the shop, "Super Gold Bowl," and the employee had just mixed up the order.

Now, here I should have been honest and explained the situation to the shop owner...

But the Devil Saitou Takumi said:
★"Naaah, it's fiiiine! It's not your fault, so just eat it like noooothing's wrong!"

And the Angel Saitou Takumi said:
☆"No! If there's been a mistake, you must correct it. When he realizes what's gone wrong, Kon-san will get the wrong impression of Japan and we'll have an international crisis on our hands!"

...In the end I told myself, "Yeah, eat it!"

My heartbeat sped up, and I calmly started to eat that gorgeous bowl of ramen, as if I'd ordered it in the first place.

This is definitely different～!
With that I got into this "super tasty" Tomii-fukubuchou mood and was enjoying myself, but as expected, that happy fukubuchou time didn't last long...

Kon-san apparently realized something was off, and started comparing the menu picture with what he'd been served.
I started getting nervous....and then started eating faster.
I hurried to eat everything on top of the noodles, so that you couldn't tell what it had been originally.
Ah, barely made it...

A few moments later, Kon-san and the manager finally grasped what had happened.
Meanwhile, under their cold gaze as they stared me down, I knew if I flinched all was lost, and kept on eating.

I win.

But, overall, it was a loss.
A huge failure.

Kon-san, Ramen Shop-san, please forgive me.

P.S.
Even though it reads 『super tasty』, it really decreases your appetite, so I really recommend it to people on diets.

This performance there are a lot of vice-captain scenes, it's a really fresh feeling.
Rangiku's not there, but for me there's still a lot of promise this time.

Lately it's been warmish cold.
I hate warmish cold weather.
I'm at a loss as to what to do about the environmental issue of warm winters, but whenever I sit down and seriously think about what I might be able to do about it I realize I'm full of it.

Today I had the day off from BLEACH.
In the morning I had a meeting, then I ran around to different places getting ready for tomorrow's work.
This year I'm gonna be swamped with performances again.
But this year especially I really feel like I'll be able to handle work related to the stage.
I can't help getting excited waiting for all these plays.
Last year there were a lot of performances, but a lot of times I was playing the same role I had previously. This year I'm going to play lots of different ones.
So with that in mind, I want to ask something:

Thank you to everyone who came to see us.
On stage I said a lot of mean things about Kensaku-san, but I really like the guy.
I want to work with them again.
I was a little nervous, but I had a great time, and I'm thankful to the cast and all the audience members.
Everyone was fully loaded on their jokes during the second performance, and it was a little sad to have it end with so much material to use.
Though it was also a little embarassing just being a guest.

Today at Rikkoukai Hall,
I had a talk show with Eiki-san.

I got there at 12:30, got my hair and makeup done, signed some post-cards, had a rehearsal, and then it was the real thing o(^-^)o
I was with Eiki-san, so I wasn't nervous at all, it was a really comfortable talk♪

Getting to take pictures with all the people supporting me,
And getting to talk with them for a little one on one was really nice (>_<)
You don't get time like that often, after all!♪
I got a lot of power from it☆

pnish article translation

Here's the translation of a pre-On5 *pnish* article from the issue of Top Stage that went on sale last November. Tuti/Nagayan fans especially should check it out ^_~

Tuti: Well, rehearsals started yesterday...
Eiji: My whole body hurts.
Daiki: I'm reeeaaaally stiff around my hips.
Wasshi: Yeah, it's hard, huh～
Tuti: Plus this time we've got Tetsuharu-san as our choreographer, the one who's been the toughest out of all the choreographers we've worked with before. We started off at full power.
Eiji: But still, he's pretty cool! There are lots of moves that feel like it's the first time we've done something like them.
Daiki: And the music also feels like we haven't used it before...Ah, well this time everything's original. It's a new atmosphere.
Wasshi: Then there's the opening--it's looking like it's gonna be really pumped up from the moment the curtain rises.
Daiki: And the etude is fun, too. Once you figure out how you're going to go about something and start moving, everyone's individuality really starts to come out. Eiji's joking side came out more so than usual. And Wasshi...well he just stands there silent.
Wasshi: Hey, cut that out! (haha) Well...sure, for a moment there it did seem like I was intruding on your world of three people (haha).
Tuti: The theme for this 『on』 is "childhood friends," which is a first for us, so that newness will make it all the more interesting. And actually, it came about at the suggestion of my actor friend, Nagayama Takashi. A while ago I asked Takashi, "What do you think would be good to do for the winter On?" and he replied, "What about if you all four dressed up like kindergarteners and did skits?" I thought that was pretty good, we could work with that, and then it kind of blossomed into "childhood friends"...
Daiki: Wait a minute! That's the first I've heard of that--you mean it wasn't your idea?!
Tuti: Nope! I stole someone else's idea! That's my specialty, you know (haha)
Eiji: Well now we're going to have to stick in there somewhere, "Background Producer: Nagayama Takashi"...somewhere, you know (haha) That reminds me, though--"childhood friends," that's talking about people you've known since you were little, right? So it's not necessarily people who are really good friends with you... That aspect's a little weird for me. There are people I was really close with when I was small, but I haven't seen them at all since then, and if we met up again I'd be able to just hop right back into talking with them, right? The concept of childhood friends is really strange.
Wasshi: Yeah, it is. But just from the word itself, you can really strongly sense this childish time, a home-town sensation.

Jump With All Your Heart, What *pnish* really Is!

Tuti: With everything getting so pumped up with all the jokes, before we knew it the play had taken shape and gotten some real flow to it, and that actually worried me a little. It's too clean! I'd been thinking, "I really wanna do this drifting, loose elementary schooler skit!", so the task set before me from the very beginning was how best to break up that flow. The charm of an On comes in really feeling the dramatic parts, while still showing the short story parts well.
Eiji: Do you remember what you were like in elementary school? For me, even in something as simple as a game of tag I would really worry about getting tagged, how much I didn't want to be. I'd get worked up over the tiniest things.
Daiki: But now it's like, "It's a lot more fun getting tagged, though--you get to sit around the whole time." (haha)
Tuti: So what were you all like as kids? For me--I would always get lost whenever I'd go out with my mom. "Oooh, whazzat?" "What's going on over there??" I'd be really curious and just waaaander away, and in the end I'd wind up being called for over the loudspeaker. She'd always be waiting for me at the front, crying.
Daiki: I'd get distracted a lot, too. During school I'd always stare out the window and the teacher would get mad at me. I was a pretty spoiled kid, actually.
Eiji: I was an 'Isono Katsuo.' [T/N: A character from the manga "Sazae-san," Katsuo was an 11-year-old boy who, while his grades were abyssmal, was very clever, and often played tricks on adults, making him a kind of leader to the kids around him.] I'd always play tricks on my parents, I was a real handful. And like, say my homework was to write the kanji 「持」 10 times, lots of times I'd just write out the 手(te) radical ahead of time [T/N: Kanji are divided up into radicals. The "te" radical, for example, is the 扌 on the left of 持.] It's faster that way. But I would get through writing all those 扌 radicals, and then in the rush forget to finish the rest, so in the end I always wound up getting in trouble anyways (haha)
Wasshi: I was actually really talkative as a kid. Whenever a new thought entered my mind it always immediately showed up in the way I spoke or acted. Though that sense of my feelings influencing my actions hasn't really changed much, some time between then and now I started showing it outright less and less... But not showing things like that normally, I feel like that kind of shows I've become and adult, and really suits me for this type of work.
Eiji: So when you took group pictures on school trips, did you stand in the middle?
Wasshi: Yup, very middle.
Eiji: Me too, me too!
Tuti: So basically, nothing's changed since then (haha). So for this performance, everyone's basic "self" is really going to show, I feel like it's really turing into a *pnish*-esque performance. It's like, we're going all out with the stupid stunts.
Eiji: We're gonna leap high over even the smallest of hurdles~!
Tuti: Right right (haha)
Wasshi: In our skits, too, we're working on putting together new characters even better than the ones up til now. Ah～I can't wait to do the skits!
Daiki: We can't say much without giving things away, but we're ending 2006 with this performance featuring all four of us, so I hope we'll be able to really enjoy ourselves on stage while at the same time putting on a good show with lots of different scenes to entertain everyone.
Eiji: There are some fun scenes where we use props, we're trying a lot of new things this time, so I hope you'll all look forward to it. Also, make sure you keep an eye on Moriyama Eiji as he makes sure to retain the pure heart of a young boy even after passing 30.
Wasshi: There were lots of people this year who saw *pnish* for the first time, so I hope they can come to understand our attraction even more through this On.
Tuti: There are lots of instances of people saying our comedy style is really "special," but that's actually a great compliment, and truthfully, every time we get a laugh from the audience, I grow more confident that, "Hey, we really must be doing something right." 02/20/07 [6:40 PM]:Tuti - BLEACH

Yesterday we had the meet-and-greet, [T/N: The 'kao-awase' or 'meet-and-greet' is where, before a show starts, all the actors and staff gather together to introduce themselves and express their wishes for a good show, another Japanese custom.]
And rehearsals started today.
There were some 50 or 60 people at the meet-and-greet.
So many...
I really hate meet-and-greets where there are a lot of people gathered. I always get nervous.
But it's really important, it stirs up the pressure inside me.
Today's rehearsal was a simple read-through of the script.
We read it through 3 times, and as expected I'm pretty worn out.
This is the first time I've read through the script so much for BLEACH. But for BLEACH it's better to read it through a lot, I think.
Sitting there facing everyone else, and just calmly getting a feel for the script.
I feel like this will be a great performance that any BLEACH fan won't want to miss.

02/20/07 [3:59 AM]: Tatsuya - Looks like thanks to this the rain's gonna stop

It's the first day of rehearsals☆
We did a script read-through.
We had the first performance, then the Saien, then "The Dark," and now with this performance we'll be finishing up, so when we read through the script, it felt really deep.

We didn't get done until the evening, so we all went out for drinks.
It's nice just talking with friends and not thinking about anything, but it's really fun talking with people who have the same intentions as you.
I get really excited!

I thought I'd put up a picture of just me and Osamu-san, who I share a lot of scenes with,
But Shiisaa barged in on a southern breeze~
Jeez, it makes my head hurt.

--been so long m(__)m
This will be a little dark,
But four days ago, my grandmother passed away. She was very strong, and warm, and always was kind to me. She even gave me my name.
But I haven't really talked to her, or seen her since I came to Tokyo, and I wasn't there for her at the end...
I thought I was prepared for this sort of thing, but...actually I have nothing but regrets. I'd always meant to do this, or that if this every happened.
I'd passed my days thinking everything would always be the same, and wrongly assumed that whenever I went home, my grandmother would be there.
So now I'm going to tell those near and dear to me how much they mean to me. It seems simple, but even though it might be difficult I want to hold them precious to me.
And I'm going to work hard not to bring shame upon this name that my grandmother gave me!! (>_<)

Well, that's the end of that talk!
Now then, switching topics here, but starting today I'll be on location in Chiba!! This is some personal work for me.
I'll have to say what kind of work it is later though!! (^-^)

Oh yeah.
Yesterday day was one full year on this blog.
The reason I've been able to keep this up so long, to keep on writing entries, is all thanks to those of you watching.
Sometimes I hesitated on what to write, and there were times when I worried about how effective what I wrote here was, but it's been a full year.
I'm glad I didn't give it up.

Happy Valentine's Day.
As expected there are couples all around town,
And the sight of people sending off the trains with loving smiles.
So I went to see Nekomaji [T/N: Apparently it's some older singing group--a trio of women all over 30 o_O] And they were singing love songs for once.
I like the title, 『A Valentine's Diversion』.

Recently I got a coffee mill, so I tried grinding some beans.
The smell was so strong I think I got a little drunk on it almost.

02/15/07 [6:17 PM]: Tuti - Really into green tea

In Daikan'yama around Nakameguro, I entered this really nice cafe
And had some green tea and Japanese sweets.

This morning I had to get up early for a *pnish* meeting, and then in the afternoon I went for a walk around Daikan'yama with a costume designer I've known for a long time.
Then they took me to eat some youkan.

I've picked up all the birthday and valentines presents that were sent to Nelke Planning.
Thank you for those, as well as all the letters and presents from the performance the other day.

Valentine's already gone, but I have a present I'd like to recommend for girls to give guys--or for guys to give guys even.

Saitou Takumi stands before you with the simple motive of saying, "I like movies."
But at the same time, what you can receive from reading is also terribly effective.

Books that change your life are far more potent than movies that change your life.

That's because, unlike movies that use pictures and music, things made by humans, they are things that freely take form of your own will inside yourself.

Each work is different for everyone.

I was really happy when I saw works by my own favorite authors like Murakami Haruki and Yoshimoto Banana displayed in European bookshop windows like they really belonged there.

Well, that's a good enough introduction--

『Harajuku Gold Rush』

Of all the books I've been reading lately, this one towered above the rest and really stimulated me.
It's the biography of this super-cool guy, Yamazaki Masayuki-san, who built up present-day Harajuku.
It might just be something that really hit someone like me, but it really pushed me.
No reason, really, I just want guys of all ages (and girls too) to read it.
That thought alone really resounded inside me.

For now I think I'll give it to a close friend of mine.
I've known this friend since elementary school, and he was always a kind of, "Oh crap!" guy, "This guy's really out there!" and we helped each other out.
Around middle school, the reason I started getting into UK Rock and River Phoenix, Itsuki Hiroyuki, and South American culture was all thanks to him.
I'm grateful to him.

When you give someone a gift, many times it's not about price, but, "I want to relate this feeling to that person," "I wonder what they'll think of this," being moved by something and curious about it first, and then passing it on to another.

At the very least I was a bit unsettled when I was given this 『Harajuku Gold Rush』.
Like, "What're you trying to get at?"

But don't worry about them being worried about it--go ahead and give it.

Also,
Itsuki Hiroyuki's 『Go West Young Man』 and Kanegi Kazuki's 『GO』, Ikegami Ryouichi's manga, 「Sanctuary」, Takahashi Ayumu-san's books, Mijima and Dazai among others, there's lots of things that can really get a guy's blood going.

Ladies, please take these into account when considering presents.
Guys, any of them are fine, just check them out!

Well, guys AND girls, try reading them.
I think the best present is one that doesn't really have a solid form anyways.

Today I went to do some recording for an internet radio program.
It's gonna be broadcast January 26th, 2007 ＼(^_^ )( ^_^)／
I went with Goumoto Naoya-san.

It's some publicity for Rock Musical Bleach No Clouds in the Blue Heavens (>-<#)

I watched the DVD released on January 20th for the Rock Musical Bleach performance we did last summer, and it was so funny with all the backstage footage!
Everyone's so different from their characters normally (haha)
And when you've got the camera right in front of you, your tension goes up really quickly.
I think I'll try and look a little cooler during rehearsals for next time Ψ(｀∀´)Ψ

I was really surprised when the sales clerk commented that I'd been using my last one for 34 months.

Lately things have gotten really dim and blurry.
I wonder why...
Even though the performance is getting closer,
Or maybe it's because the performance is getting closer?
Whenever I get home from rehearsals I feel so lazy.
But that's no good--so today I'm gonna watch a movie or something and go to bed.
--so with that I'm gonna drift off to sleep watching The Simpsons.
Just like always.

--is a fun time.
Ayata-san makes sure to keep up with the breaks, I like it.
So today,
Muraoka-san bought some vegetables and cut them up,
And Kimura-san brought some salmon roe sent from his home in Hokkaido,
And Minemura-san brought some rice,
So it kind of felt like a picnic.

Okada-san was eating some ochadzuke with bean noodles or something, I'm not sure what it was,
So I finally asked him,
"That's not good, is it?"

Rehearsals sure are fun.

There's a donut place in Shinjuku's southern terrace you can line up at,
Krispy Kreme
I had some of their donuts.
I'd heard rumors before, but...
They were really good.
They have lots of different kinds, so why don't you go try them?

Rehearsals end tomorrow, and for me who's been having fun over these past days, the main pair of Kobayashi-san and Okada-san easily break up a hard workload that would otherwise leave us all on the verge of passing out.
I bow my head to those two. [T/N: In English we'd probably say something like, "I tip my hat to those two."]
Okada-san is always getting mad at me and yelling, "Keep it up~!"

Today was his birthday.
A party with a friend I can really relate to.
I got to hear a lot of stupid stories from him for the first time in a long while--of course they were all about himself.

Tomorrow we head to the theater.
Today I'm enjoying one last day off and preparing for a new tomorrow.

We managed to end safely.

It's over.
Nothing went wrong as far as the work itself is concerned, but there were a few mess-ups, so I'll have to work on that for tomorrow.

Sense of Responsibility
I've been tormented by these words since elementary school.
I've never really felt this at all, personally. My report card would always say that I needed to work on that area, so I've tried to improve it some.
But when I'm on stage playing a role, I really concern myself with it.
It's something I've learned, after all.
Outside of playing a role, I feel like I can control what I've learned, but can't control what I've possessed all along.
For those people who've always had [a sense of responsibility], it's probably just natural for them, but for me, as an actor, it's really serious for me to decide to take the lead and take responsibility or not.
No matter where I am--it's always the same.

01/26/07 [10:14 PM]: Tuti - 3rd Day

Our third performance is over.

Today, counting the intermission, it took about 2 hours and 20 minutes.
There's a good bit of time from the start of the performance until I go on stage.
It's really important how you spend your time, so if I get ready too soon, I'll completely lose my concentration.
I'm not quite used to it yet--being backstage during the performance.

This performance--it really taught me a lot.

The way the two Nylon troupe actresses grasped their roles in the performance,

In this play, with a bunch of people who love performing all gathered together, there was a lot I received from communicating with everyone.

The Santies were choppy in a pleasant way; I feel like their unusual team work will lead to something nice and new in the future.
And Daiki-chan gave an enthusiastic performance as well--he's really working hard.

Even when I don't ask for it I get told what to do.
There's a saying, "If you get stung by a wasp twice, you'll die."
If that's true, then the next time I get caught by these guys it'll be my death day.

I vaguely remember there was an inn at Tanazawa I used to go to with my family when I was a little crew-cut boy.
The moment I opened the door, these guys locked onto the top of my head and without any hesitation they dove in for the kill.

I'm not sure if little boy Takumi with his Kitamura Kazuki boy 'hazardous smell' did it, but I know without a doubt that it was the Saitou family who stirred them up, and the principal offender was myself.

They were probably just trying to protect what was theirs.

But please, cut me some slack next time...

If it comes down to that again I'm gonna fight back next time.
It'll be a matter of life and death.
At the very least I'm gonna take some of them down with me.

But...please, give me a break...

Even should our paths cross, let's just act like we didn't see each other.

So with that, I was on the lookout for "their" presence at AKB48.
